I was invited to paint at a property in Yarra Junction on a blissfully sunny still day and this scene was on offer. I chose a spot at the lake’s edge, sunlight warming my skin, a slight breeze shimmering across the water in silver ripples.
Pink and yellow waterlilies floated open-throated, their petals trembling as if singing. Clouds drifted lazily above, shadows sliding across the lake’s mirrored surface. Around me, the stillness hummed with a soft, rich, jubilant chorus of dragonflies and hidden water creatures. The lilies serenaded the life of the lake itself: a quiet, gentle hymn woven of light, wind, and water.
